Health inequalities

Overview

Health inequalities in society have been widely documented in the UK over the past half century, notably in the Black 1 and Acheson 2 reports. While there have been substantial improvements in overall health in this period, inequalities between groups and regions have been persistent. As health inequalities are neither inevitable nor acceptable, reducing them has become a top priority for the NHS and the UK government.
