Dr Eileen Kaner
Alcohol Misuse
Dr Eileen Kaner is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at Newcastle University. She recently held a Department of Health NHS
Primary Care Career Scientist Award and, before that, an MRC research training fellowship in health services research. Much
of her research has focused on brief interventions to reduce alcohol-related problems in primary care. She currently co-leads
a multi-institution research consortium which is delivering a key strand of the Government’s ‘Choosing Health’ agenda on alcohol
through wide-scale piloting and the implementation of brief alcohol interventions. In just over ten years at Newcastle University,
she has won £5.7m in research grants and has published widely.
